 Marie Bleu  Ceanothus x pallidus 'Minmari'  ppaf, cpaf

 

This native shrubs is commonly known as New Jersey Tea or California Lilac. Breeder Jean-Paul Davasse gives us a truly garden worthy hybrid that combines strong growth, dark green leaves, hardiness and rich blue flowers.

Loads of misty blue flower heads cover this compact plant in late spring. Adding to its attraction red seed capsules add another season of garden interest.

Hardiness:  USDA Zone 6, possibly zone 5.

Bloom Time:  Mid-summer and sporadically into fall.

Not for areas with a combination of high heat and humidity.

 

 

Foliage Color:  rich green

Size:  2-3 feet tall, 3-4 feet wide

Exposure:  Full sun - partial shade

Soil:  Well adapted to most any garden soil so long as it is not too wet. Tolerant of drought once established.

Pruning: Shear lightly after blooming to produce a stronger rebloom. Prune in late fall or early spring. In Northern states, this plant may dieback to the ground though roots are hardy and the plant will recover in time to flower.

Watering: Low to medium moisture

Wildlife: Butterflies

Type: Deciduous – semi-evergreen in Southern states

Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring by applying a slow release fertilizer specialized for trees & shrubs. Follow the label for recommended rate of application.

Uses: cut flower, perennial or shrub border, in masses or groupings.
